PE
PE at Highlees
Intent:
At Highlees we strive for success in every pupil and for them to achieve their potential by challenging, developing knowledge and skills within PE. We aim to provide every pupil with life skills that will promote positive attitudes towards life.
Implementation:
Highlees pupils, participate in weekly high quality PE and sporting activities that show the pupils' resilience and give them the determination to believe that anything can be achieved. Our PE programme incorporates a variety of different sports and experiences to ensure all children develop mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing capabilities.
We provide a wide range of opportunities to engage in extra-curricular activities within our lunch times and after school clubs, in addition to competitive sporting events.
Impact:
Our curriculum provides the skills to help lead a healthier lifestyle and aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all children at Highlees within our lessons. Children are taught, not only sporting skills, but self-discipline, resilience, how to work in a team, responsibility and compassion.
This will enable them to lead a happy, healthy and successful life.
Swimming:
Years 4 to 6 cover swimming, where the children develop the skills required to ensure that they are confident swimmers by the time they leave us in Year 6. We encourage a competitive spirit, while recognising the value of co-operation, fair play and team work.
Clubs:
Highlees offers a wide variety of sports clubs for the children to participate in and compete. We also participate in a variety of sporting activities within the Jack Hunt Cluster including; Multi-skills, Football, Rowing, Cricket, Dodgeball, Netball, Rounders and Athletics.
Sports Day:
We have our Traditional Sports Day in the summer term. All children compete in a selection of strength, stamina and agility activities.
Premier Sport:
We work with Premier Sport to offer coaching and CPD to our staff. Premier offer various clubs after school to our various year groups and also support staff in teaching lessons throughout the week.
